2,000 Sqft Deck Project
Featuring a Boardwalk, Boat Dock, Two Story Deck, and Endless Steps Contact UsWe are thrilled to share details about a recent 2,000 sqft deck project we completed, a massive endeavor that involved a boardwalk, boat dock, two-story deck, and endless steps. This project showcases not only the scale of our work but also the dedication and skill of our team.
Rebuilding and Resurfacing: The Scope of the Project
This deck project was no small feat. The boardwalk and steps were entirely rebuilt with new framing, while the rest of the project was a resurface. Starting in early April, our team braved sub-30-degree temperatures and a frozen lake, persevering until we completed the project on a day that reached the high 80s. The weather posed significant challenges, but our team remained committed to finishing on time, just before Memorial Day.
The Team Behind the Success
This 2,000 sqft deck project wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work and collaboration of our talented team. Rob deserves a huge shoutout for ensuring the project ran smoothly. His leadership and dedication were instrumental in overcoming the project’s challenges. Steve was also indispensable, raising the bar for what we can achieve and deliver to our clients. Nate and Will provided crucial support, particularly during the demolition phase.
Working with Wonderful Clients and Partners
The success of this project was also due to our fantastic homeowners, who were open and receptive to design ideas. Their trust in us to deliver their dream deck made this project a joy to work on.
We also want to acknowledge Lakeland Lumber Inc. for their invaluable support. Their timely delivery of the right materials was crucial to our project’s success. Having worked with them for several years, they have become an essential partner in our endeavors.
Top-Quality Materials for a Stunning Finish
For this project, we used Deckorator’s Voyage Sedona, a mineral-based deck board known for staying noticeably cooler in the heat and providing incredible traction. For the railing, we chose Keylink Horizontal Cable Rail with a cocktail rail and their American rail for the stair sections. These high-quality materials not only enhanced the deck’s functionality but also added to its aesthetic appeal.
Conclusion: 2,000 sqft Deck Project
This 2,000 sqft deck project stands as a testament to our team’s dedication, skill, and the strong partnerships we’ve built over the years. We are proud of the work we’ve done and grateful for the opportunity to create a beautiful outdoor space for our clients. Stay tuned for more updates on our projects, and thank you for your continued support!

Frequently Asked Questions
Are you licensed and insured?
At 1918 Preservation we are fully insured with general liability insurance, business auto insurance, and workman's compensation. There is no license for deck building, but we are registered with the state as well as every municipality where we pull permits.
Do you have references?
Is a permit necessary an who pulls the permits?
More often than not a permit is required on deck and fence projects. The scope of work as well as the city/county the home is in will dictate whether or not a permit is required. Per the IRC, if the deck is under 200 sq ft, less than 30" from the ground, and not attached to the home, a building permit is not required. Resurfacing a deck or doing repairs generally does not require a permit.
At 1918 Preservation, our team handles pulling the permits, including plan and application submittal. We coordinate with the inspectors to schedule all necessary inspections as well.
Do you install wood decks and composite decks?
We install both wood and composite decks. There are several factors that come in to play when deciding which option is best for you. Cost is obviously a major factor with composite. Almost every composite brand has a high end decking option, their mid level decking, and also a lower-cost deck board option. The same is generally true with their railings as well.
With a wood deck there will be annual maintenance costs as well as general upkeep. I often tell clients if you enjoy that type of work and don't mind doing it, take advantage of the cost difference and go with wood.
There are several differences and intricacies with installing a composite deck versus a wood deck. Composite decks require additional steps as well as additional tools to complete the install process. This typically leads to a higher labor cost for similar sized wood deck.
How long will the project take?
Projects will vary in duration, most taking between 4 and 8 days. Some of the factors that determine the length of a project include the presence of an existing deck that needs removed, the size of the new deck, and the layout of the area where the deck is being installed. Weather and city inspections also play a role in the duration of the project. We do everything we can to plan for the weather to avoid delays in finishing the build. We stay in constant communication with our customers and keep them informed on a potential finish date as well as any possible delays.
How long have you been in business?
We have been in business since June of 2019.
Do you offer any financing options?
We offer financing through Acorn, a 3rd party finance company that our customer's can go through directly. A link to their website will be located on the proposal that we send over. Our proposals stay the same amount whether you choose to pay traditionally or use financing. In other words, we don’t jack up the price because you elect to finance your project!
