1918 Preservation recently completed a deck installation in Roaming Shores, Ohio. Nestled in a private lakefront setting, this project transformed an already beautiful outdoor space into a low-maintenance haven for relaxation and entertainment. By replacing the existing decking, railings, and steps while preserving the original framing, the homeowners gained a modern and durable deck that perfectly complements the stunning lakefront views.
Materials Used for our Deck Installation in Roaming Shores, OH:
- Decking:
- Picture frame boards and fascia: Trex Lineage Island Mist
- Infill boards: Trex Lineage Rainier
- Railings: RDI Finyl Line vinyl railings, combining durability with a clean, classic look
- Pergola: Trex Pergola with a retractable canopy for added shade and style
- Underdecking System: Trex RainEscape, along with soffit, post wraps, and a gutter system beneath the deck
Unique Features:
- Trex Pergola with Retractable Canopy: The pergola not only enhances the deck’s aesthetics but also provides adjustable shade, making it a versatile space for enjoying the lakefront view in any weather.
- Trex RainEscape System: Installed under the decking, this system creates a dry, usable space beneath the deck, ideal for storage or an additional seating area.
- Soffit and Gutter System: The soffit and gutters provide a polished, finished look underneath the deck while efficiently managing drainage.
Why This Project Stands Out:
This Roaming Shores deck resurfacing project demonstrates 1918 Preservation’s ability to blend functionality with elegance. The use of Trex Lineage decking ensures that the homeowners no longer need to worry about the maintenance issues associated with their previous wood deck, while the RDI railings and Trex Pergola add both safety and style. The addition of the Trex RainEscape system and soffit enhances the deck’s versatility, ensuring it can be enjoyed in all seasons.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are you licensed and insured?
At 1918 Preservation we are fully insured with general liability insurance, business auto insurance, and workman's compensation. There is no license for deck building, but we are registered with the state as well as every municipality where we pull permits.
Do you have references?
Is a permit necessary an who pulls the permits?
More often than not a permit is required on deck and fence projects. The scope of work as well as the city/county the home is in will dictate whether or not a permit is required. Per the IRC, if the deck is under 200 sq ft, less than 30" from the ground, and not attached to the home, a building permit is not required. Resurfacing a deck or doing repairs generally does not require a permit.
At 1918 Preservation, our team handles pulling the permits, including plan and application submittal. We coordinate with the inspectors to schedule all necessary inspections as well.
Do you install wood decks and composite decks?
We install both wood and composite decks. There are several factors that come in to play when deciding which option is best for you. Cost is obviously a major factor with composite. Almost every composite brand has a high end decking option, their mid level decking, and also a lower-cost deck board option. The same is generally true with their railings as well.
With a wood deck there will be annual maintenance costs as well as general upkeep. I often tell clients if you enjoy that type of work and don't mind doing it, take advantage of the cost difference and go with wood.
There are several differences and intricacies with installing a composite deck versus a wood deck. Composite decks require additional steps as well as additional tools to complete the install process. This typically leads to a higher labor cost for similar sized wood deck.
How long will the project take?
Projects will vary in duration, most taking between 4 and 8 days. Some of the factors that determine the length of a project include the presence of an existing deck that needs removed, the size of the new deck, and the layout of the area where the deck is being installed. Weather and city inspections also play a role in the duration of the project. We do everything we can to plan for the weather to avoid delays in finishing the build. We stay in constant communication with our customers and keep them informed on a potential finish date as well as any possible delays.
How long have you been in business?
We have been in business since June of 2019.
Do you offer any financing options?
We offer financing through Acorn, a 3rd party finance company that our customer's can go through directly. A link to their website will be located on the proposal that we send over. Our proposals stay the same amount whether you choose to pay traditionally or use financing. In other words, we don’t jack up the price because you elect to finance your project!
